Brixton Culture Capital 21.05.2026
Lambeth Just Toppled Labour...And whats on this weekend.
I don’t usually write about politics, but this feels like an important moment for Brixton. For the last 20 years of my adult life living in Brixton, Lambeth Council has been controlled by Labour.
That’s no longer the case.
The Green Party won 29 seats across Lambeth. Labour won 26 seats.
To put that into perspective, Labour previously held 54 seats, while the Greens only had 4.
That’s a huge political shift in one of London’s most culturally important boroughs.
What’s especially interesting is that this happened in places like Brixton, where political identity has felt relatively stable for a very long time.
So I’m genuinely curious: why do you think this happened?
Was it national politics? Housing? Culture? Generational change? Gaza? Cost of living? A changing Brixton? People wanting something different?
Or something else entirely?
Comment below. I’d genuinely love to hear how you are thinking about this.

🍿 The Christophers @ Ritzy
Soderbergh’s art-world caper pairs Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel in a sharp London story about forgery, legacy and money. It is smart, talky and quietly ruthless — a strong Ritzy pick for anyone who likes their heists with ideas attached.
