Brixton Just Bid for Itself — History in the making
This week Brixton did something it has never done before: our community made an offer to buy back its own market. Before Monday’s 5pm deadline, the Buy Back Brixton campaign — led by the Brixton Traders & Community Association together with the Advocacy Academy — submitted a competitive bid for Brixton Village and Market Row.
36,000+ petition signatures and over £550,000 raised on GoFundMe, in under a week. New council leader Martin Abrams pledged to “pull out every sinew”; MP Helen Hayes called it “our love letter to Brixton.”
